How to crop an image online
- Choose your photo. Browse your phone or computer, drag a file onto the upload box, or paste an image from your clipboard. The image is processed in your browser.
- Pick a shape. Use Free crop for any shape, Square for a profile image, 16:9 for a banner or 9:16 for a story. The 35:45 ratio is a photo shape; it does not certify passport compliance.
- Adjust the selection. In Draw mode, click anywhere on the photo and drag to create a selection from that point. Choose Move / resize existing crop to move the bright area or drag its edges or corner handles. Use the X, Y, width and height fields to select exact pixels. Locked ratios stay proportional.
- Check the composition. Rotate or flip the image if needed, and use the rule-of-thirds grid to position your subject. The preview shows the selected area without the overlay.
- Export. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP, optionally enter a smaller output width, then download. Review the actual output dimensions and file size.
Large camera photos and image quality
Files up to 30 MB are accepted. Large photos are prepared at up to 4096 pixels on the longest side and 12.6 megapixels to reduce browser memory use. Original and working dimensions are displayed. JPEG decoding requests a smaller working copy when its header provides dimensions; some browser fallbacks still decode the full image first. A low-memory phone may need a smaller source image. Cropping discards the area outside your selection and cannot restore missing detail. Output never upscales the selected pixels.
Which format should I choose?
JPG is suitable for photographs and fills transparent areas with your selected background colour. PNG preserves transparency and uses lossless encoding of the prepared pixels. WebP supports transparency and adjustable quality when supported by your browser. JPG and WebP quality settings affect file size and detail; re-encoding can make an already optimised file larger.
Supported files and privacy
Common browser-decodable image formats are supported. Animated GIF and multi-image files use the first still image. HEIC/HEIF tries native decoding, then loads a local decoder on demand, requiring internet; some codec variants may not decode. TIFF, RAW and PSD require conversion to JPG or PNG first. Images are not uploaded by the cropper. Existing website advertising, analytics and remote resources remain. Exports omit source EXIF/GPS metadata.
Can I change my mind after cropping?
The selection is non-destructive while this page is open: move or expand it to include another area. Reset image restores the uploaded image and removes rotations, flips and crop changes. Download saves a new file; keep your original separately. This tool handles one photo at a time and does not remove backgrounds.
